Olive Museum

Located in the heart of Anglisides, next to the historic 700-year-old olive tree, the Olive Museum is a tribute to the deep-rooted connection between the community and olive cultivation. This museum serves as a gateway to understanding the cultural, economic, and environmental significance of olives, which have played a central role in Cyprus' identity for centuries.

Location & Purpose

The museum was established on the land surrounding the ancient olive tree, emphasizing the village’s long-standing relationship with olive farming. Its creation was co-funded by the Cyprus Government, the Community Council of Anglisides, and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development under the LEADER Program (2007-2013). This initiative focused on preserving, restoring, and enhancing cultural heritage and the natural wealth of the region.

The Significance of the Olive in Anglisides

Beyond being a key agricultural product, the olive tree symbolizes peace, longevity, and prosperity. The 700-year-old olive tree standing beside the museum is an enduring reminder of the village’s heritage, serving as both a historical landmark and an environmental treasure.

Educational & Community Impact

Through guided tours, workshops, and exhibitions, the museum encourages locals and visitors to engage with the traditions of olive cultivation. It offers valuable insights into how the olive industry shaped Cypriot culture, contributing to local economies and sustainability practices.

Open year-round, the Olive Museum welcomes individual visitors, schools, and researchers looking to explore Cyprus’ olive-growing legacy.
